'Rabindra Chitravali' is a compilation of more than 2,000 images of Tagore’s paintings, drawings and doodles, most of them reproduced, for the first time ever. As a rich critical apparatus, the volumes include commentaries, notes, relevant information and technical details relating to the works reproduced and an overarching introduction, all provided by Professor R Siva Kumar, Professor of Art History, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan. The collection also contains translations of Tagore’s own writings on art and aesthetics and his own painting.
The four annotated volumes of Chitravali have been sourced from the rich collection of Rabindranath Tagore’s works available in Visva Bharati, Rabindra Bharati University and the National Gallery of Modern Art.
The first volume of ‘Rabindra Chitravali’ was released by UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi at the inaugural ceremony of National Commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. The other three volumes will be printed in the commemoration year.
