11. Shri Jawhar Sircar, Secretary (Culture) and Member Secretary of the National Committee then initiated the discussions on Agenda Items.

Agenda Item 1: The report on Activities and Events undertaken, and about which the Ministry of Culture was in the know, between 7th - 9th May 2010 was noted. Shri Sircar requested the Members of the National Committee to inform about other celebrations that were in their knowledge, so that they could be included subsequently.

Agenda Item 2: It related primarily to the preparatory activities and the dates of celebrations, for which Hon’ble Members were invited to give suggestions. Member Secretary informed that the 150th year of Tagore, i.e., 2010-11, was for preparatory activities and that the main commemoration year will be after his 150th birth anniversary in May 2011, i.e., in year 2011-12. Thus, roughly two years were contemplated for the celebrations. The Committee approved that the celebrations which have begun on 7.5.2010 will continue till the end of 2011-12.

Agenda Items 3 and 4: The National Implementation Committee had met under the Chairmanship of Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Union Finance Minister on 5th May 2010 and the details and deliberations of the Committee were spelt out in Annexure III to the Agenda.
