19. Shri Ashok Vajpeyi, Chairman, Lalit Kala Akademi, mentioned that the National Implementation Committee had laid down the policy that tangible and intangible heritage of Tagore was not only to be preserved but also to be perpetuated. Shri Vajpeyi made the following suggestions:

  • (i)   Rabindra Nath Tagore Prize for Asian writers:
    Instituting an Annual Asian prize, to be called Rabindranath Tagore Prize, which should carry an amount Rs.1 crore. This prize could become Asian equivalent to Nobel Prize
  • (ii)  Tagore Centre for Asian Arts and Literature (TCAAL):
    Creation of facility for people to reside and work in an environment like ‘Sriniketan’.
  • Such Centres may be called ‘Asian Centres’ and 20 people should be given such facilities /fellowship each year to create Indo-files in various countries.
  • (iii)  Development of Rabindra-Parisars in the States.
  • (iv)  Rabindra Institute of Literature and Arts (RILA):
    Establishment of university of Liberal Arts.
