Rabindranath Tagore is an icon who made important and pioneering contributions in different areas of our rich cultural heritage. He became the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize for his collection of poems, Gitanjali. In 1921, he established Visva Bharati University and contributed the Nobel Prize money and royalty from his books to the University.



Recognising the contributions and to rekindle interest in the life and works of Gurudev, the "Tagore Award for Promotion of Universal Brotherhood" has been instituted for promoting values of Universal Brotherhood. There will be one Award each year. It will carry an amount of Rs. 1.00 crore, a Citation in a Scroll, a Plaque and an exquisite traditional handicraft/handloom item.
